Violence in Belfast
Maybe the residents of Belfast know I am coming...
Yesterday, an annual parade by the Orange Order (the largest Protestant fraternity in NI) turned into an ugly mess of rioting in parts of Belfast. Many have said that this is some of the worst rioting to his Belfast since the peace process began, and is even remeniscent to the 70s and 80s. Many were injured, including civilians and police by bullets, petrol bombs and bomb blasts. The violence spread throughout cities in NI, and went in through the night.
Now, I am arriving in Belfast in just under two days, and with all this happening, I do not know exactly what to think. Not that I am scared or anything, after all I lived in Israel riding four buses a day two years ago. But, I am, in some ways, curious to see the conflict as it is playing out.
This coming Saturday, there is supposed to be another parade in Belfast involing a few hundred individuals. I will hopefully be there to see it.
